IFDCO BS COACHING FOR 2001 SEASON - Julian Bridges
Introduction
Having said that I would only get involved in the FD association after I had finished my
trick at the helm of Clwb Hwylio Y Felinheli, I have now been talked into providing a bit
of coaching support for the class.
Update User Manual
I feel that, with a bit of support, more sailors could be got racing, and could enjoy
their sailing more. I have a number of ideas for helping people get to grips with FD
racing, and I am here talking about those who appear at regattas a couple of times a year,
rather than the hardcore travellers. The hardcore travellers, including myself, would like
a databank of information relating to setting up an FD, an update on the Users
Manual that was produced a few years ago, and I would like to be involved in moving
that forward.
Way Forward?
So, what I feel we need is :-
How to put my FD together when its been in the shed for two years
How to set it up to race - mostly in the manual already
How to go out and do it better when the chips are down
On the Water coaching
The third section is something I feel would be best treated by on the water coaching and
after race thinking. I am interested in the idea of a day or weekend devoted to this at
the beginning of the season, but it is something that could include a chat session at
regattas after racing, or possibly some on the water activity before racing starts etc. I
will attempt to contact the larger European fleets to see what they are doing, and
adapting anything that comes to light to our British circumstances.
What do you think?
What I need to know is how people feel they could be helped, so if you have any questions
or input then please do contact me, in Y2000 we can almost all chat online, so please mail
or phone me with ideas, information and questions, to help me put something together for
the benefit of all of us. More stuff next time..................
