BALA JULY 4/5 1998

NOT AS BIG AS BALATON,

NOT AS GUSTY AS GARDA,

NOT AS FAR AS THE NETHERLANDS

We regularly go to Bala for the Long Distance Race and Regatta. In 1998 it is on July 4/5.

Bala is a beautiful lake, 6km by 1km, in fantastic scenery, nice club, easy local accommodation, only 90 minutes from Birmingham.

You get a 4 to 6 hour long distance handicap race up and down the lake against 60 to 80 boats on Saturday starting at 1200, with a two from three handicap regatta on Sunday ( usually spilt fast / slow and I think we would get class results if there are enough of us ) finishing early enough to escape.

M54 west from north Birmingham, turns into the A5 near Shrewsbury, left onto the A494 well signed for Bala. Left as you enter the town well signed for the club.

Visit a different country for a weekend, no need for foreign currency, toy train along the lakeside, walking in the hills, ice cream by the lake.
