FD UK Travellers Trophy

CURRENT YEAR, RESULTS, EVENTS & RULES

The Travellers Trophy is awarded to the team comprising a designated helm and his/her crew(s) that achieves the best overall results from the races in the qualifying regattas.

Any FD helm who attends a qualifying event with an FD will be automatically included in the results of the Travellers Trophy so long as he/she is a paid up member of IFDCO and the crew is a paid up member of the IFDCO British Section except that any crew sailing in just one event in a Calendar year does not need to be a member. Similarly substitute helms or crews do not need to be a member if it is their first event in a calendar year (Committee meeting on 16 November 2003)

PAST WINNERS and RESULTS

Changes to Rules for 2007 (Committee Meeting 28 January 2007)

Wording clarified to make it clear that boats attending an event are only eligible for points if the enter the event.
4 races to count

Changes to Rules for 2005

Aim of Changes
To focus on main events in UK and clarify scoring system.

Changes
1 Include National Championships in 2005
2 Eliminate concept of Secondary Events
3 Any FD sailor may nominate additional events for consideration by the Committee as a qualifying event.

Clarification
To confirm previous practice of using event results and scoring FDs qualifying for Travellers Trophy in the order that they appear in the overall results of that event using the scoring system for that event. Thus in case of the SGP the overall event results are used even though FDs sail on different handicaps.

For 2005 the scoring system will be as for 20003/4 with 5 results to count.

Changes for 2003/4

Aim of changes
To focus the Travellers Trophy on UK events and raise profile and status of Travellers Trophy

Changes

  1. Exclude events outside UK

  2. Exclude National Championships

  3. Present prizes to helm and crew of first three boats overall. (In addition to the Travellers Trophy which is held for a year by the winners.)

  4. Award Trophy and prizes at the last Primary Event in the year

  5. Count events in a Calendar year for 2005 onwards

  6. For 2003/4 include all events from 1 October 2003 to the last Primary event in 2004

  7. For 2003/4 retain scoring system for 2003 but count 5 events.

Changes for 2002

Aim of changes
To encourage FD sailors to attend more regattas and to raise visibility of FD at sailing clubs around the country.

Change
Introduction of secondary events which will be scored in same way as primary events but will only be counted if:

3 FDs participate
At least 1 FD travels from its designated home club
The Travellers Trophy Co-ordinator is advised at least 30 days prior to the event

Notes
Any FD sailor may nominate a secondary event and needs to encourage at least 3 FDs to attend the event.
An email should be sent to the Coordinator as soon as possible with details of the event. This is to allow time to notify other sailors to increase participation at the event and to give all interested parties an opportunity to attend the event. See article.

NB
By encouraging more boats to attend you will increase your chance of getting more points
and will assist in raising the profile of FD sailing in the UK.

Changes for 2001

Aim of changes
To provide more incentive to race FDs as too many owners are not taking their FD to an event because they do not have a crew, yet there are usually crews available to sail. Contact Peter Doran if you do not have helm, crew, FD but have experience of racing in trapeze dinghies/FDs and wish to participate.

Changes
1 Include Nationals and Worlds in qualifying events

2 increase number of points for taking an FD to an event from 0 to 5

3 increase number of points for overall result to number of British Section boats beaten in overall results + 5 points.

In addition to encourage FD sailors to continue in following year and to increase further the number that attend the Midlands Area Championships, the Midland areas will count as the first event in the series. The last event will be the weekend before the Midland Areas. The prizegiving is at the Midland Areas.

Changes for 2000

Aim of changes

To increase participation and to provide incentive for every FD sailor to encourage maximum number of FDs to attend and race in each event.

Changes

  1. High score system will be used. 1 point will be awarded to last boat in the overall results of each qualifying regatta, n points for being first where n is the number of competitors at the event that have sailed at least one race.

  2. The qualifying regattas consist of 7 designated FD UK Open meetings including the FD National Championship (Oxford, Whitstable, Lee-on-the-Solent (Southern Area Championship), Bala, Nationals (Abersoch), Burton, Rutland (Midland Area Championship)

  3. 4 out of of the 7 events to count.

  4. Highest points wins.

  5. Above changes and further proposals to be considered at the AGM in 2000.
