LLYN BRENIG AUTUMN REGATTA SUNDAY 26 SEPTEMBERA very pleasant days sailing was enjoyed by what appeared to be the majority of our club racing fleet, at the last ANWSC meeting this year. With ten boats competing, and six out of the top eight places, we showed, again, that we are the dogs biscuits. Three races were held in light winds with the trapeze crews getting the occasional chance to stretch their legs, while the less experienced sailors had a splendid introduction to regatta sailing. Tony Taylor and Corin Westley were narrowly beaten for the event by Dave Turtle and Huw Crew from Gresford after a very close battle for the final race. Looking back from the FD Tim Hall and I cruised home watching the tacking battle and the pair of them fighting it out, but the Gresford boys managed to hold on to the end. The rest of our Hornets, Mark McGee and Andy, John Jones, being told what to do by Rhian, and Ken Newing showing Sue Newton a good time, dominated the front of the fleet in a meeting which favoured the faster boats. Good performances were also seen from Tim and Oliver Newton, sharing an Oppy race by race, and Mark Taylor in his Miror, ably crewed by son Joseph who won a special prize as the youngest competitor at four years old. Richard Austin and Alex managed to put together their FD for a complete series, no mean feat for them, Sion Stockwells Solo was first of the singlehanders dispite the conditions favouring the faster classes and the less substantial sailor, and Janet Thompson put in her usual competant performance in her Laser. There were delicious cakes and home made scones, it hardly rained at all, and the scenery was brilliant. Twenty four boats in total, we got:- 2 Tony and Corin, Hornet 3 Andy and Mark, Hornet 5 John and Rhian, Hornet 6 Julian and Tim, FD 7 Ken and Sue, Hornet 8 Sion, Solo 11 Janet, Laser 12 Mark and Joseph, Mirror 17 Richard and Alex, FD 21 Oliver or Tim, Oppy Julian Bridges |
