	Banks Sails sponsored the FD stand at Sailboat - 3/4 March 2001 at Alexandra Palace. John Best's FD  - 3rd in 2000 Worlds was on display with carbon spars.
	Yachts and Yachting who support Sailboat, has a website providing links to UK Classes and Clubs and opportunity for sailors to register.

Trophies & Champions
At the Southern Area Championship a photo of the Shield was taken and the names of past winners have been added to the website..click here.

A list of trophies that are understood to have been awarded during the 1970s has been added to the website. At the National Championship a photo of the remaining three trophies were taken click here. If you have any recollection of who won the other trophies or where they might be please contact the FD Class. We would like to have a complete record for the 50th Anniversary celebrations in 2002. Southern Area Championships
With spring tides at Lee-on-the-Solent on weekend of 21/22 July and a new style Olympic course with outer loop, there were many place changes in the hotly contested series. All nine FDs enjoyed close racing. JB, who was race officer, lent his boat to James and Toby Dale who won all four races, second overall was Peter Weeks & Karl Allen and third Stephen Parry & David Parr. Tony Lyall enjoyed good bursts of speed with his new carbon mast. Results Contents

Worlds 2001
The FD worlds in Denmark attracted 69 entries from 14 nations. Jorgen & Jacob Boysen Moller (DEN) won. British places : Peter Doran & Richard Phillips (39), , Tony Lyall & Colin Burns (51), Julian & Cathy Bridges, (53). Oxford Tankards
The weekend provided some very close racing at the front end of the fleet between Peter Doran & Richard Phillips and Hugh Myers &  John Lansley on the Saturday and John Best & James Cole on the Sunday. Phillips/Doran regained the Tankards after a year in Julian & Cathy's care who were unable to attend this year. Full report and results Contents

Sailboat 2001
The fastest FD in UK, third in FD worlds 2000 and 6th in Worlds 1999 was on display at Sailboat 2001 rigged with the experimental carbon mast.This significantly improves upwind performance in waves and makes the FD much easier to right after a capsize due to significant reduction in weight of mast. Proposed Change to Class Rules
It is proposed to reduce minimum weight of mast from 11kg to 10kg.Contents

Changes in rules are effective from 1 March 2001 and can be found at www.sailing.org/rating/FD.pdf. Changes relate to battens, Side deck pads and references to IYRU rules being replaced by various ISAF rules. Contents
