Southern Area
Championships
On 27/28 July the sun shone at Lee-on-the-Solent and there was some very
close racing for the few FDs that attended.
Report & Results
Bala
Four FDs made what is now an annual visit to Lake Bala to sail in the long
distance race in which the FDs were the largest and most successful
fleet. Fd sailors who have not yet visted Bala are recommended to go as
hospitality is excellent and sailing conditions provide a good challenge.
Report & results
Nationals 2002
Whitstable Yacht club warmly welcomed the FD Class for the
National Championships from 1-3 June 2002. The FD fleet enjoyed some
excellent racing and hospitality. The overall results were decided in the
last race with John Best & James Cole winning the race and event with Peter
& Andrew Weeks only one point behind. Full
report and results click here
Rutland Training
weekend
The training weekend on 18/19 May
at Rutland was a great success. David Wilkins, Julian Bridges and John Best
provided a varied training programme with the emphasis on boat handling and
experimenting with new ways to carry out manoeuvres, The feedback sessions
highlighted the wide range of ways that each task is carried out. Everybody
learned a great dea and it was considered that the session should be
repeated at least once a year.
Oxford Tankards
On 6/7 April the FD fleet assembled for the
first regatta of the year at Oxford. Racing on Saturday was abandoned due to
35 knot gusts. On Sunday it was still very blustery and excellent racing was
enjoyed. Tony Lyall & Colin Burns back from there regattas on the Continent
were well practiced and gave the overall winners Peter Doran & Richard
Phillips three very close races. Results & report
Sailboat
Rosie & Neil Pye displayed their FD "Lady Jane Grey" at
Sailboat complete with a beheaded dummy as helm and full size dummy as crew.

Carbon Spars
At the 2001 British Section AGM it was agreed to continue to allow carbon
masts in British Section events until 31 December 2004 except that a boat using a carbon
mast would not be counted as the winner of the National Championships. Carbon masts need
to comply with current rules for measurement but not weight nor position of centre of
gravity.
NB: carbon booms and carbon spinnaker poles are legal for
FD events anywhere in the world.
IFDCO Reminders
Young Sailors Travel Grant - IFDCO offers a limited number of travel
grants to Young sailors to assist them attend World & European Championships.
Proposed Change to Class Rules

the rules for determining what is included in the weight. Contents
