Introduction
This is the eighth FD UK Newsletter designed for the WWW. Please email contributions to the Editor. Contents

National Championships 1999
Two races were held at Brixham, one very light wind and the other in some of the roughest seas sailed in an FD. It was decided that the event should be decided by including the races at the Midland Area Championship with one discard from the 6 races and including anybody participating at Rutland. Despite counting a DNS, David Wilkins made a good showing but the overall winner for the second year running was Peter Weeks, this time with his brother Andrew as crew.

Midland Area Championship
Another great event at Rutland shared with the Osprey and Contenders.

IFDCO-BS AGM and dinner
After looking at JBs new carbon fibre mast and boom and discussing the plans for 2000, the usual excellent Rutland hospitality was enjoyed courtesy of David & Gill Wilkins.

FD Worlds 1999 - 77 FDs - 15 Nations
FDs arrived from around the World, the sun blazed the wind blew, the band played. Conditions on the course were very testing with unusual NE winds gusting strongly and fanning out across the course. The current at the windward mark provided a severe penalty for those that misjudged the strength. A very strenuous week for everybody. with Accolades were received from the Worldwide President of the 505 Class crewing an FD and the World Champion Jorgen Shonherr having just finished third at the 505 Worlds in France. The write up in Yachts and Yachting says it all. Well done to John Best the event organiser and the cohorts of volunteers at Lee-on-the-Solent Sailing Club for organising the most successful World Class event in the UK in 1999. See
FD Worlds 1999 website for more information
