The yearly event of Flying Dutchman in Sweden was as always held in Vejbystrand.
And as always everything was perfect; the sun was ever present, a westerly breeze and lots of cool beer.
However this Years Cup was not normal and that is because events outside the control of
the excellent race organisers. Some of things they had to battle was:
- The crewmember of SWE 101 was missing somewhere in Norway.
- The leaking east german submarine was not ready ( 10 months and counting.)
- The new mast for SWE 101 is somewhere in Denmark.
- The crewmember of SWE 108 could not find his trapez harness.
- The extremly poor shape of SWE 97.
Anyway the crew of SWE 115 sailed SWE 108, SWE 108's crew sailed SWE 97 and the Risne's sailed their own boat !!!!
The race started and when it was time to round the windward mark SWE 115 had a comfortable lead,
they set their spinnaker and then realised what they had forgotten. SWE 108 ( a very heavy boat) is slow going
downwind, seeing Bengt's very happy smile when he passed SWE 115 did not make things better.
Going towards the finishing line there was an incident which we still discuss, some of us
think that Kenneth was trying to improve his tan when he went overboard, some of us
think he was more aerodynamic standing like that. Anyway Kenneth went swimming and SWE 115 passed.
When Kenneth climbed aboard, SWE 97 broke down and that was that.
The crew of SWE 115 in SWE 108 finished first ! However Kenneth claims that SWE 115 did not pass
the "new" line wich Kenneth invented while he was swimming. Since there was just 2 functional boats left the rest
of the day was spent training and drinking beer.
Since there where just one race, SWE 115 keeps the ugly price until next year.
