The history of Flying Dutchman sailing in Sweden.

This is the first attempt to document Flying Dutchman Sailing in Sweden. We will update this page when we get hold of more information. We would like to say thank You to Peter Jorisch and Pelle Båth for their help.

We have not been able to find out who took the first FD to Sweden or when the first races in Sweden where held.

The first realy successful sailors where Lennart Hellman / Kaj Wesslin from Norrköping and they won the Swedish championship 5 or 6 times.

In the 1964 olympics sailed the Käll brothers from Stockholm

1965 was Björn Rosén / Stellan Westerdahl the best team.

1966 was Lennart Hellman / Kaj Wesslin champions.

1967 ?

1968-1972 sailed the Kolni brothers from Göteborg the olympics.

Strong competion from 1972 came from the Båth brothers and Peter Jorisch with Uno Gren as crewmember.

The rest of the 1970's was dominated by the Båth brothers

1976 sailed Stefan Sjöström & Reine Andersson the olympics

For many years during the 1970's there where no swedish championships due to too few boats

Swedish champions1980 was Peter Jorisch with Gert Fougt as crewmember.

1980 did not Sweden have any representation at the olympics

1980 World Championship in Malmö

I remember the wonderful wooden ceilings in the clubhouse and the currents which nobody could predict!! Also we had some interesting light races and in one we had several spinnaker hoists on a beat with the wind going round in circles!

Terry McClaughlin won, Batzill was second, Diesch brothers were third, Abascal who also won Gold at Olympics that year was 4th, Bouet was 5th and Pat Blake sixth - total 46 FDs from 24 nations.

Swedish champions 1981 was Bengt Hagander/Magnus Kjell from Malmö.

International Swedish champions1982 was Peter Jorisch with Gert Fougt as crewmember.

International Swedish champions 1983 was the german team Anton Schwartz / Peter Lang.

International Swedish champions1984 was Bengt Hagander / Magnus Kjell and they sailed also the olympics in SWE 101.

International Swedish champions 1985 was Peter Jorisch with Gert Fougt as crewmember.

1986-1992 where there no Swedish championships.

Mats Nyberg / Peter Eriksson sailed the olympics in 1988.

Mats Nyberg and Johan Lindell sailed the last olympics
