FINAL NOTICE OF RACE

The Clube Náutico de Tavira and the International Flying Dutchman Class Organization have the pleasure to invite all Flying Dutchman sailors to participate in the International Flying Dutchman Open World Championship 2002 which will be held at Tavira, Portugal from

Wednesday 28th August to
Tuesday 3rd September 2002.

RULES

The World Championship will be governed by:

· The ISAF Racing Rules 2001-2004
· The Notice of Race
· The Sailing Instructions and the communications by the Race Committee
· The IFDCO Championship Rules
· The IFDCO Class Rules
· The Rule 113 (Limitation) applies
· The Sailing Instructions will prevail in the event of a conflict between this Notice of Race and Class Rules. The English text will prevail.

EVENT CATEGORY
The FD World Championship is designated as a "Category C" event in the ISAF RRS,

Appendix 1 and IFDCO Class Rule 119.

ELEGIBILITY
All Competitors must be currently paid up members of the IFDCO and of a Sailing Club affiliated to a National Yachting Authority and comply with the relevant requirements of the ISAF RRS, Appendix K.

REGISTRATION
Registration will take place Wednesday August 28th and Thursday August 29th between 0900 and 1800 hours. See the Notice Board by the Race Office for daily times.

Membership Cards must be presented.

MEASUREMENT
Measurement Certificates MUST be presented together with a current Membership Card to the Organization Authority during the Registration and will be checked by the measurers. Only the boats with a valid Measurement Certificate and an IFDCO membership card will be admitted.

Measurement will begin on Wednesday August 28th, between 0900 and 1900 hours an will continue until completed on Thursday August 29th , from 0900 hours.

RACING PROGRAMME

Practice Race – Warning Signal 14.00 hours
Friday August 30th First Race of the day – Warning Signal 12.00 hours
Saturday August 31st First Race of the day – Warning Signal 12.00 hours
Sunday September 1st Reserve day
Monday September 2nd First Race of the day – Warning Signal 12.00 hours
Tuesday September 3rd First Race of the day – Warning Signal 12.00 hours
Prize giving ceremony

There will be no warning signal after 1600 hours on Tuesday September 3rd . The program consists on 7 Races and there will be no more than 2 races per day.

SCORING
The Low Scoring System will be applied, according to the ISAF RRS, Appendix A. If three or less races will be completed, the Championships will be void. If 5 (five), 6 (six) or 7 (seven) races will be completed, there will be 1 (one) discard. For 8 (height) or 9 (nine) races completed there will be 2 (two) discards.

SPARE HELM – CREW
Only one replacement for a boat is allowed. Either the Helm or the Crew can be substituted:

a. Before the first race, informing the International Jury

b. In case of emergency, during the series, after permission has been obtained from the International Jury.

INTERNATIONAL JURY
An international jury will be constituted for the Worlds Championships in accordance with Appendix M of the Racing Rules and the decisions of the international jury will be final in accordance with the Racing Rule 70.4.

ENTRIES
Entry Fee will be € 275.

The entry form shall be sent and the entry fee paid to Clube Náutico de Tavira until the 31th July.

SAILING INSTRUCTIONS
Sailing Instructions will be available from August 28th 2002, upon registration.

LIABILITY
All competitors shall have cover against third part liability for amount of at least the equivalent of € 200.000 and shall be able to produce written proof of this in English. The Race Organizations will not be liable for any loss, damage, death or personal injury howsoever caused to the owner / competitor, his or her skipper or crew, as a result of their taken part in the race or the races. Moreover every owner / competitor warrants the suitability of his or her yacht for the race or the races.

The provision of safety equipment and boats by Clube Náutico de Tavira is neither a guarantee that assistance can be rendered to any competitor in need, nor acceptance of any responsibility for rescue of competitors. Further, in the event that assistance rendered to any competitor, either the Club or the crew of such safety craft accepts no liability for any loss, damage or injury to the competitor and / or the boat and its equipment.

Neither the establishment of these conditions, their use by neither the race organizers, nor the inspection of the yacht under these conditions in any limits the absolute responsibility of the owner / competitor. The crew are nonetheless advised to satisfy themselves as to the experience of the skipper and the adequacy of all safety equipment and insurance arrangements.

The attention of all competitors is drawn to the International Racing Rules, Racing Rule 4 - "Competitors' Responsibilities - It shall be the sole responsibility of each yacht to decide whether or not to start or to continue to race."

LOCAL REQUIREMENTS

A safety tally system will be on operation for all races.

SOCIAL PROGRAMME

A typical dinner will be served during the championship.

PRIZES
For the Open World Championship the following prizes will be awarded:

· World Championship, over all winner
· World Championship for best result without discards
· Best team of under 26 year olds

· OTHER PRIZES
Other Prizes will be awarded. A notice detailing these will be given in the Eve programme and will be posted before the first race.
