FD
Bulletin
The FD Bulletin has
been printed and is being circulated to National Secretaries. Each paid
up IFDCO Member is entitled to a copy- if you do not receive a copy
contact your National Secretary.

Masts
The Class has decided to reduce weight of masts to 8Kg and to allow
carbon from 1 March 2005. There will be a transition rule whereby total
weight of mast plus hull shall be min of 141kg until 29 February 2008.

Eligibility
Helms and crews must be fully paid members of IFDCO to participate in
World, Continental, Euro-Cup events or to be included in the Dawes
Trophy results except that a substitute helm or crew need not be a
member if they only sail in one event during a calendar year. Note this
modifies decision made in September 2002 regarding membership - See
Membership below.
The Byelaws and Class rules are being changed to reflect this decision
which will be fully implemented from 1 January 2005. (25 January 2004)
Equipment Rules of Sailing
A major review of the FD
Class rules has been completed. Changes
have been made to bring
them into line with ISAF ERS.
The changes take effect from 1 March 2004.

New Logo
The new logo has been launched see
home page A customised version of the logo is
being prepared for each National Class Association and will be
distributed to the National Secretaries. More guidance and information
will be published soon.
FD Worlds 2004
The 2004 World Championships will be held at
Rostock - Warnemunde, Germany - 27 July to 3 August 2004.

The first event in 2004 is the Vaillant Cup, Hungary

Fastsail

Following the very
successful inaugural Symmetric Grand
Prix held at Datchet Water Sailing Club, UK on 4/5 October 2003.
The Osprey,
Fireball, 505, 470 FD, Javelin and Hornet classes have combined forces
to create the Fastsail Group
see www.fastsail.org.
The first event was a joint marketing effort at the
Dinghy Show at Alexandra Palace, London on 6/7 March 2004
(25 January 2004).

Worlds 2003
The FD worlds in Melbourne on 2 - 7 January 2004 were
very successful with 56 FDs from 11 nations participating in challenging
conditions. Results and photos. (25 January

Young sailors at Worlds
20 sailors under 25 years old received a Travel Grant to attend the
Worlds in 2002. This is an encouraging increase over the 6 that qualified for
the Grant in 2001.

Women FD sailors at Worlds
Tanja with Marianne Lubbers. made FD history in 2001
in Denmark, being the first all women team to sail in a FD World
Championship.
A record number of women sailed in the FD worlds in
2002 and the first all women team Elisa Koenig & Julia Weissbach (GER) finished 35th overall.
Tanja Heijink (NED) was the first women helm sailing with Theo Rutten
(29th overall).

Marleen receives Trophy at Worlds 2003
IFDCO decided to acquire and present a trophy for the
first woman in the FD Worlds This was first presented at the FD
Worlds 2003 at Melbourne to
Marleen van
Ballegooijen
(NED) who
finished 37th overall sailing with Clovis Buijs.
Membership of IFDCO
It was agreed at the 2002 AGCM that in order to extend the promotion of
the Class and to further involve crews, all sailors who participate in
the Worlds, Continental and National Championships should be members of
IFDCO.
The
helm must under current rules be a full member of IFDCO. In some cases
crews own the boat and are also full members of IFDCO.
At present
both the helm and crew of teams entering international events should be
either a Full or Associate member of IFDCO and at least one must be a
Full member.
As from 1 January 2005, Full members will be re-designated sailing
members, the fee will be reduced to approx 20 euros and the new
eligibility rule - see above will come into force.
All FD sailors and supporters of the FD are encouraged to become
Associate (Non Sailing) members of IFDCO.
Membership fees for 2004 - Full Members- 32 euros (25 euros if paid
early), Associate Member - 16 euros.
2005 Sailing Members approx 20 Euros to be agreed - Associate (Non
Sailing) Members to be decided.
