Updated re Worlds 2006 (22 June 2005)
Masts
The
transition rule in relation to the proposed introduction of carbon masts
on 1 Mach 2005 agreed in Melbourne has been modified in the light of a
request from the FD Class in Germany that corrector weights should be
directly related to the weight of the mast and should be visible.
ISAF has approved the change to class rules to reduce the weight of the
mast and to allow carbon masts with effect from 1 March 2005. The
minimum weight of masts of 10Kg will be further
reduced to 8.5 Kg on 1 March 2008.
See
changes to class rules for detail of new
rules

carbon spars and other earlier information.

Obituary - Ann Truett |
|
Ann Truett who was the
General Secretary of IFDCO from 1996 -2000 died on 29 November 2004.
Ann was first introduced to the Flying Dutchman when she crewed for
her husband John, and from this beginning she became an enthusiastic
supporter of the class. This support for the class was maintained
during the time when John held the IFDCO role of VP Championships as
well as Ann’s time as General Secretary.
Ann will be remembered for setting up the current committee meeting
format and agenda structure for IFDCO in its post Olympic era.
During her time she sifted many old class records before depositing
them in the archives in Holland.
Ann was also keen to see that the leading teams in the Dawes Trophy
had a prize of a practical nature, and persuaded the committee to
fund personal prizes each year. She also promoted young sailors in
the class and created the travel grants for young sailors who
attended World championships.
Ann was an architect by profession and had worked on several local
projects in the area of Sussex where the couple lived for over 20
years. In recent years Ann had reduced her professional activities
and her interest in breeding a herd of 30 rare beef cattle, occupied
much of her time.
While out shopping on 29 November Ann was hit by a car while
crossing the road in the high street of her local town and died
shortly after in hospital.
Ann will be sadly missed by all of her many friends in the FD class.
IFDCO sends its condolences to John and their two sons. |
