Dear friends,
I thank all of you for your partecipation to the FD Worlds 2011 in Malcesine, on last July .
It was wonderful to meet such a great fleet and I think that 134 FD coming from 21 Countries and 4 Continent is a great success for our Class.
After almost 60 years Conrad' s dream is more than alive .
Moreover the kind hospitality of the Fraglia Vela Malcesine and the warm atmosphere among the sailors delighted the Championship .
Please, follows below the results of the Worlds in Malcesine and the Reports by Peter Hinrichsen and John Best ; moreover, you can find the best Photos in the related Photogallery .
As always, we had the chance to schedule the traditional IFDCO Annual meetings, a very important time for the Class life to join us to think to the future of the Class and propose strategies and development in the Class management and activities .
Especially during the General Committee there where several topics to discuss and update !!
With regard to the future events, we have just finished the World Championship 2011 and while the sailing activity is going on, we are already looking forward to organize the events 2012, in details.
The 2012 sailing season will offer us a rich set of events : the FD International activity will start with the European Championship that will be held to Altea in Spain, on Easter .
During the Europeans, we are organizing to celebrate also the IFDCO 60° Anniversary ; so, that event will represent a very important time
for our Class life .
After the classic series of spring race, there will be the Vintage Yachting Games to the Lake of Como, since 7 to 15 July ; .......then, we 'll have just the time to load the containers to ship the FD to USA, where there will be the Worlds in Santa Cruz , since 24 to 30 September .
Please, find reported below the Notice of Race and of the Europeans, Vintage Yachting Games and Worlds in Santa Cruz .
Moreover, you could find every information with regard to the events in the IFDCO Website
( section "Events / Future Events / World / European Championships / Vintage Yachting Games " ).
Finally, with regard to the next years, the Worlds 2013 will be held in Lake Balaton (Hungary), the Worlds 2014 in Largs (United Kingdom) and the Worlds 2015 in Sydney (Australia).
The Minutes of the AGCM are almost completed and will be mailed to the National Secretaries, soon .
With regard to the IFDCO organization, as I already wrote several times, we need young people join us in the management of the Class, looking to the future .
During the AGCM in Malcesine, started the process and new people entered the board .
In particular, after 17 years Stephen Parry resigned as V.P. Championship and will be replaced by Jan Lechner (GER - 100 helmsman) ; anyway, Stephen will help Jan till the Worlds in Santa Cruz.
Dear Steve, personally and on behalf of all IFDCO, I thank you very much for your availability and congratulate for the great job, you did in several years.
Your engagement for IFDCO was dedicated not only to the Championships, but also to represent the IFDCO to ISAF and look to the future strategy of the Class ; so, thank you very much, again !!
As team, Steve, Jan and many others coworked now, to finalize the Notice of Race of the Europeans 2012 .
The AGCM went on with a discussion with regard to the IFDCO communication, especially concerning the IFDCO Website and the FD Bulletin .
The Bulletin, after the last update with the news about the Worlds in Malcesine and the NoR of Altea 2012 will be ready for the shipment
in the next 20 days .
Moreover, looking to the importance of the communication and promotion of the Class, the AGCM decided to create the new role
of V.P. Communications.
Ronald Stalman (NED - 18 crew) will be in charge of that role, since now ; thank you very much Ronald for your availability .
Finally, the Class will become a more sensitive structure in the nearby future ; the IFDCO members will see that their influence and input increase.
The AGCM dedicated a long discussion to that topic and it was agreed to create a Committee for such a purpose : Tom Greten (GER - 13 crew) has been elected to coordinate that Committee .
Anyway, more details are reported in the Minutes of the AGCM .
......so, a lot of things are happening to promote and improve our Class activities ...and Conrad would have been proud of the FD ..
Let me thank all the FD sailors and Officers who contribute to the Class activities, promotion and advertisement, every day.
Of course, I 'm at your disposal and I 'm looking forward to hearing and meeting you .
.......I wish you to go ahead with a FD wonderful sailing season 2011 and 2012 .
Cheers,
Alberto
